PRODUCT FAQ
What are TC 417 / AF 90 made from?
TC 417 /AF 90 are both made from spray grade biosoluble glass wool of high purity which naturally provides a “Vivid White” visual appearance.
AF 90 is a more mechanically refined than TC 417, hence offering a “flatter” finish.
About 40% of both products are derived from recycled base materials
Can I get TC 417 / AF 90 in any other colours ?
Yes – via the application of a tint / dye in the adhesive or by over painting TC417/AF90 with an airless spray applied acrylic paint.
The “tint” method does not always result in a 100% colour match, so some preliminary testing is recommended.
The “over paint” method offers a more solid result .
If a fully integral TC 417 /AF90 colour is required, then both the “tint” and the “over paint” method should be adopted.
How much does it cost ?
Generally TC 417 at 50mm thick applied to more than 100m2 should cost between $ 20.00/m2 to $ 50.00 /m2 (Ex GST), depending on the project size, ease of access, location of site, number of site visits, surface conditions, thickness etc.
AF 90 at 25mm thick applied to areas > 100m2 is between $ 25.00 / m2 – $ 45.00 /m2
However a quick phone call to us with basic project details is the best way to get an accurate price.
What are the ideal applications for TC 417 & AF 90 ?
TC 417 is ideal to satisfy BCA Section J insulation requirements in Car Parks, Plant rooms, and acoustic requirements in Nightclubs, Loading Docks or any commercial / industrial situations where a textured visual finish is acceptable
AF 90 has a fine level finish and is ideal where superb acoustics is required along with smart architectural looks found in restaurants, hotel lobbies, libraries and call centres.
TC 417 is also ideal to treat areas that require condensation control or where an insulation is required on a surface that has pre-existing services installed.
How fast can TC 417 & AF 90 be installed ?
All installation require preparatory (prep) works. Set up of machinery, masking of unsprayed elements, plastic sheeting on the walls / floor etc.
Once the prep work is completed, spraying is quick – and 200m2 may be comfortably installed in a full working day
Additional time should be allowed for clean up, demasking and disposal of waste
When in the construction program, is it best to install TC 417 & AF90 ?
In all instances, the sprayed surface must be water tight.
If spraying roofs then it should be ensured that no foot traffic occurs on the same for at
least 10 days thereafter.
If spraying areas that will contain surface mounted services (ducts, cable trays, etc) you have 3 timing options :

  1. Spray to a clear slab / roof before any suspended services have been installed. All following trades need to drill / shoot through the insulation with care. We return to Site toward the end, to simply patch up Trade damaged areas
  2. Spray TC 417 / AF 90 after all hanger rods and fixing brackets have been installed The trades then return to hang their services without damaging the TC417 /AF90
  3. Spray TC 417 / AF 90 after all services have been installed.

All three options have their merits and issues. If you contact us, we can best determine the ideal sequencing, which often is a hybrid combination.

PERFORMANCE FAQ
What is the fire “resistance” performance of TC 417 & AF 90 ?
The Building Code of Australia (BCA) specifies the Fire Hazard / Heat Evolved parameters of all building linings and defines the same within the Standards AS 1530.3 & AS 3837
TC 417 & AF 90 satisfy both Australian Standards with flying colours.
Test Reports are available on request.
What surfaces can be sprayed with TC 417 & AF 90 ?
Almost any stable and dry surface – Concrete, Bondek formwork, plasterboard (dry walls), metal sheeting, timber flooring, insulated roofs and even glass!
TC 417 & AF 90 are inherently inert and have no reactive effect on the sprayed substrate.
Are TC 417 & AF 90 “green” products ?
Yes – With 40% recycled contents and local sourcing you will obtain NABERS points, LEED Credits & Green Star contributing points.
Both TC 417 & AF 90 have low VOC’s and no ODP, further enhancing their “green” credentials.
What is the thermal performance of TC 417 & AF 90?
Excellent! A 100mm thickness will obtain a constant Stand Alone Thermal Resistivity of R 2.80 in both direction ( heat flow in-to-out & out-to-in / Summer & Winter Ratings).
When applied on to any substrate / assembly, the thermal values of these items will contribute to a sum total known as a System Thermal Rating
What is the “light reflectance” of TC 417 & AF 90?
Brilliant! Luminance Reflectance is measured in accordance with AS/NZS 1428.4 and is around 90%
Why is it that some products claim exceptionally high R Values ?
Most reflective type thermal products have a high R Value in one direction only – and may advertise just this item, even though it may not be relevant to the project design.
Occasionally an Imperial System R Value (as used in USA) is quoted.
In Australia / NZ we use the Metric System R Value only. (W/m2oK)
To Convert an USA R Value to and AUS R Value you must multiply by 0.176 Hence USA Thermal Value R 14.2 = AUS Thermal Value R 2.5
MAINTENANCE FAQ
Can I clean TC 417 & AF 90 ?
Yes, however the results may not be satisfactory as the products cannot be wet washed.
Hence cleaning has to be of a “dry” nature and is best conducted by slightly compressed air or surface brushing to remove the dirt. With surface brushing one is removing a layer of dirty product to reveal the clean layer below.
If the dirt is deeply impregnated or very badly stained you may need to respray the area.
How do I “patch up” or respray TC 417 & AF 90 ?
Generally small patches up to 200mm x 200mm can be easily patched up by using grafted material and handicraft type spray on adhesive. The grafted material can be obtained from us at no cost and installed by Yourselves employing simple handyman skills.
Larger compromised areas need to be resprayed and you need to contact us to arrange for the same.
Is there any flaking or drop of material over time?
No – If correctly installed and sealed, one will not encounter any flaking or loosening of material over time. Where air turbulence is present or predicted (Cr Parks / Plant Rooms) is imperative that proper seal coating be conducted to seal and harden the surface against potential destabilization. TC 417 / AF 90 have excellent elasticity and can withstand a high level of lateral or “twisting” movement
How do I prevent damage to the sprayed product ?
You cannot really prevent malicious damage occurring to any product. Accidental damage is best prevented by design. Experience has highlighted that applications above 3.0 mts height do not attract attention and maintain their integrity over years and years.
Applications in low areas or high public traffic areas may need a mechanical facing such as perforated metal) or a simple spray applied hardener that will increase the “toughness” of the surface seal.
What Certification & Warranties can I expect ?
Both TC 417 & AF 90 are warranted to perform thermally & acoustically for a minimum of 10 Years.
Additionally TC 417 & AF 90 are Certified to satisfy all the Building Code Fire Hazard requirements, and where part of the design, to satisfy the requirements of Section J.
